What To Do When You Have a

Water Leak

1. STOP THE WATER

Find the shut-off valve – under the sink, behind the toilet, or near the appliance.
If water is still leaking fast, or you can’t find the source of the leak, turn off the main water valve (usually outside, or in the garage).

2. Find the leak

Look for the source – a dripping pipe, a broken hose, or an overflowing appliance.
Be careful if water is near electrical outlets!

Note: Take video or photos of any damage in case severe damage has occurred.

3. Dry up the water

Use buckets or towels to stop water from spreading. Set a fan to start drying and to prevent mold growth.
Move anything important (like electronics, books, or rugs) out of the way.
