Adding a utility sink to a garage when there’s no existing supply or drain nearby means finding the nearest tie-in point and working from there. In this Fate home, the washer box on the other side of the garage wall gave access to both water and drain lines without running new pipe from scratch.
A section of the wall was opened to reach the lines. The standpipe for the washer box was cut and fitted with a 2×1.5″ sanitary tee, with a rubber boot used to make the drain connection at the right height for the fittings. Water lines running down from the attic were tapped with half-inch PEX tees, brought through the wall, and fitted with shut-off valves. The builder-provided Utilatub sink and faucet were assembled and connected to the supply and drain.
The P-trap on the utility tub required inverting to work with the drain configuration. Once installed, the tub was filled and drained several times, and the washing machine was run to confirm both drain lines were handling flow correctly. No leaks.
